hide + seek

Come out, come out, wherever you are.

How many of us stayed in their hiding place just a little bit longer to ensure it wasn’t a trick to make us lose? It’s easy to stay there because it offers an illusion of security for the moment.

Some of us are still hiding.

About a month ago, I heard Christopher West define prayer as being naked before God. He followed the statement with a simple question:

What masks are you wearing?

What masks do you bring into your conversation with Jesus? Often times the masks we wear in the world feel as if they’re our skin. We believe the world’s criticism and begin to cover ourselves until we believe the same false perception we offer to the world around us.

However, what if we stripped it all away and let ourselves be seen by the One who made us? What if we had the courage to be cleansed of the lies and insecurities that the world covers us in, and instead rest naked in the truth of who we are?

If that last sentence gives you anxiety, this is for you:

You can stop tirelessly trying to fix yourself. You don’t have to live enslaved by the expectations of the world any longer. God has not forgotten who he created you to be. He sees you, he knows you, and he loves you for exactly who you are.

Take a deep breath, and peel off the masks one by one. Throw off your fear, and come out of hiding. God’s call in the Garden of Eden still echoes for you, “Where are you?”

Come home and rest in the truth of who you were created to be.

You are a child of God, and the world is incomplete without the real you.
